A plan to build a new skatepark in Belfast has been agreed by Belfast city council.
It will be built in partnership with the Sports Council and the skaters' group, Belfast Urban Sports. In order to do this, it needs to get the £260,000 funding needed, the skate park will then be created in an underpass at Nelson Street. The council said the proposal would provide a needed recreational facility and help address anti-social behaviour in the area. Funding applications for the new development have been made to Sports Lottery and to the council's Brighter Belfast Landfill Tax Credit Fund with the council supplying the remainder from its capital programme. Council officers have already had discussions with and support from the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company about the proposed site.
Pope from the UKSA in Northern Ireland is heavily involved, so the construction of the park is in good hands. |
