The council has announced that it is allocating £200,000 to build a skate park in Ealing Borough as we reported last Friday . The three sites under closest scrutiny are: Elthorne Park, Northala Park up by the A40 and Acton Park. The council has appointed a supervising officer to draw up site proposals and I hope to meet with them in the next couple of weeks. However, there is lots you can do! The main thing is to make them realise that the design needs to be driven by an experienced user group.
At the bottom of the article in the Ealing Times you can register and link your comments to the article. Click here. Please, please, please get your feedback on there. Be courteous. Be polite. They are spending £200,000 on skateboarding.
This is by far the best way to comment as it enables the council to build up a picture of how many people are responding to that particular article. Alternatively, you can add comment directly through the letters page .

New Skate Park Approved Ealing Times Oct 15 2008 A new skate park has been approved by Ealing Council in a bid to improve the borough's youth facilities The council has allocated £200,000 for the scheme while another £65,000 is being used to a build a dance studio. Locations have yet to be decided. Work is also underway on other projects in the borough, subject to public consultation The decision comes after a poll in May in which 6,433 11-16 year olds were asked for their views on how one million pounds should be spent. The top choice was a new skate park. Councillor Ian Gibb, cabinet member for children's services, said : "This is great news for people across the borough. By investing in this, we're providing exciting activities for young people not just now, but for years to come." |

Waltham Forest Guardian 30th September 2008 By Charlie Campbell
THE wheels have finally come off plans to build a community skate park after five years of delays. Despite £80,000 being earmarked in 2003 for a BMX, skateboard and rollerblading venue in Wanstead, councillors decided to scrap the proposals as no suitable venue could be found. Now officers are pledging to introduce some multi-activity sports equipment in the west of the borough before April, to appease youngtsers frustrated by the lack of progress.

Robin Rhode, as part of his exhibition at The Hayward, Southbank Centre, is temporarily transforming the skateboard area under the Queen Elizabeth Hall with a new installation.
"The project aims to highlight a particular space rather than own it in any conceptual way. My idea for the project is to create an optic environment using layered geometric forms that are sprayed directly onto the wall through a stencil. These forms could animate the environment, or fourth dimension, with the skateboarders moving through the space.’- Robin Rhode
Don't worry, it’s not being taken away. The space is still the same, but the walls will transform. This will result in restricted access in the skateboarding area on Monday September 29th, Tuesday September 30th, and Wednesday October 1st; with partial access to the area on Thursday, Friday and Saturday October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Don’t miss the chance to experience the change on Saturday October 4th, 2008. Any more questions about the project? Email
