New skate park opens in Bristol

Bristol Evening Post

Skateboarders showed off their skills to celebrate the official opening of a skate park in Bristol.

Skaters flocked to the new Filton skate park to tackle the half pipe, showing off tricks on BMXs, skateboards and in-line skates. Former world champion skater Danny Wainwright, from Bristol, also put on a display.

The skating area in Elm Park was set-up after members of Filton People campaigned for the facility.

It was officially opened by Lois Pryce, of the community group, and Filton town councillor Stan Sims.

Children as young as four took part in the competition to mark the opening of the skate park.

"The guys that organised the event - Andy Walker and Steve Birkbeck - did us all proud and kept the crowd's enthusiasm going all day," said Filton town clerk, Lesley Reuben.

"Hopefully they will be organising similar events in the near future."

Anyone with ideas about how to improve other parts of Filton are encouraged to contact Lesley on 01454 866698 or Lesley_reuben@ filtontown council.co.uk.
