Waltham Cross Skatepark PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 September 2005
To be honest, I just didn't know what to say about my new local skatepark.

Well, not what to say, but how to say it.
It appeared in the town 2 miles from where we are based in Waltham Abbey and is one of the poorer examples of a park I have seen. I should say something, right?

Well, why bother when someone has done it already.

This text below was on the frontpage of the Lea Valley Star, September 21st, 2005.

"Council defends £80k skateboard park plan"

SKATEBOARD and BMX users in Waltham Cross have been short-changed by a new ramp in the town, according to an experienced user.
But Broxbourne Council has refuted the claims.
Boarder Mark Anthony, of Waltham Abbey, says the design of the ramp - part of an £80,000 project on the Waltham Cross playing fields - is 20 years out of date.
'We have been duped into purchasing a white elephant at a price which is well over the odds," be told the Star this week.
He added: "As a skateboarder of many years, and with a large amount of experience of skate parks the world over I have to inform you that the facility is hardly inspiring, and just doesn't hold up to the standard which is required. To be entirely honest, the park would barely have held up to the standards 20 years ago."
He added that "very little research" had gone into building the skatepark, if any at all.
A spokeswoman for Broxbourne Council said the ramp itself cost £40,000 and the works are due to be completed by September 30.
She added: "The council is very happy with the company and the value for money it provides  but more importantly the young people who use the part are very pleased with the results”
The council said it has consulted with young people in Waltham Cross throughout the planning and building stages.
"The company incorporated changes suggested by the users as things went along," she added.

Maybe they should have looked at this for some help. It's not like it doesn't come top of the list when you search for it in Google.
