The local skaters in Hastings are pushing to get a replacement skatepark built.
"Since starting with one of the best vert ramps in europe provided by HBC and a midi ramp built by backyard in 1989. Hastings park has been going backwards ever since.
The fantastic facilities where soon knocked down due to the councils short sightedness.
We've had a 1 year temporary park installed in 2000, fast forward 8 years and we still have it! but it is now so water logged and full of holes with screws sticking out it is totally unsafe to use.
The 2008 Battle of Hastings comp wasn't run as it was unsafe and an embarrassment to ask people to travel down and skate our park.
We need a skatepark not only for today's users but for the future generations. It needs to be concrete and be up to the standards of Saffron Walden, Harlow or Crawley etc.
Skateboarding has been in the town since the 60's! where the first skatepark was in the icerink. Even when we've had nothing to skate, skateboarding has always been here. We the undersigned urge HBC to do the right thing and give the go ahead a proper permanent large scale concrete skatepark asap."
