A POPULAR project designed to reduce anti-social behaviour is returning for its sixth year. The Safer Communities through Sport project is back thanks to a funding package secured by Derbyshire Dales District Council.
Launched in 2003 using sport and recreation to reduce youth anti-social behaviour, the project was intended to run for five years. Now, after recently recording a 10% reduction in nuisance incidents, Safer Communities through Sport will continue with funding from various sources. Derbyshire Dales District Council will once again host the project, which was originally set up as a partnership with Derbyshire Sport, High Peak Borough Council, Sporting Futures and Sport England. Council leader Lewis Rose said: "Although crime in the Derbyshire Dales is very low we are working to get it even lower and the Safer Communities through Sport initiative is a great success story."
