Skate through London - Important Update PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 26 July 2005
After an amazing meeting with a representative from the Deputy Prime Ministers office regarding the Skate through London event, a visit was made to nearby New Scotland Yard. Sadly the Police meet was far less productive...
They've informed us that we'd be liable to arrest if we try to skate on London's streets or pavements.

We can walk to Downing Street with our boards under our arms (Yeah, right!) but due to the current events in London they won't even grant permission for that at this time.

New protest laws mean that you can now even be arrested for using a megaphone in the exclusion zone.

So, as it officially stands, we CANNOT demonstrate in our supposedly democratic society.
Although this is a campaign to raise awareness for the lack of modern decent parks in our country, it does seem pretty strange that London has precisely NO modern skate facilities and, according to the head of Belgravia Special Events force, it is illegal to skate anywhere in the city!

Fuming is the word which springs to mind.

We will keep you updated. For now, click on the Skate Through London banner above to take you to the online petition.
