Bexleyheath youth park plan gets its skates on
20 November 2008

WORK has begun on creating a new skate park for Bexley youngsters.

The project is based at Danson Youth centre in Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, and is a joint effort between the centre and Bexley Council

It is being funded with £150,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The skate park will provide a venue for skateboarders and BMX bikers to learn more about their sport and a safe place to practice under adult supervision.

Staff at the centre say they will welcome beginners and arrange support and tuition for them at specific sessions.

Those more experienced will be able to show off, practise their skills and exchange tips Young people were consulted before the final design was chosen, so the park could be tailored to their requirements.

Its complex ramps and blocks will create a street-style course, together with a big bowl, and will be ready in the New Year.

Councillor Simon Windle, deputy council leader and cabinet member for youth services, said: “Bexley’s young people have long campaigned for this.

“I am looking forward to seeing it in action.”
