£1million town centre skate park is planned Northampton Chronicle Friday, 2nd May 2008 Up to £1m could be spent on building a skateboarding park in the centre of Northampton, as long as lottery funding is made available.
Northampton Borough Council is hoping to unlock a £455,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund by producing a "play strategy," detailing its commitment to improving play facilities for children and young people in the town. Part of the strategy includes £40,000 to begin preliminary work on a dedicated skate park, with the park's likely users to be asked to help draw up the plans. Unveiling the document at a borough council cabinet meeting last night, Councillor Brendan Glynane (Lib Dem, Delapre) said a larger chunk of funding could then follow. He said: "We are actively investing £40,000 (of the lottery grant] to look at the construction of a skateboarding park in Northampton. "Ultimately, we are looking at a major skateboard park costing somewhere in the region of £750,000 to £1m." |
